Q. What’s your most memorable career achievement?
Being part of the management team that launched MORE TH>N. I was still fairly early in my career, so helping create a completely new insurance brand was an incredible opportunity. There was a real sense that we could do things differently, and seeing MORE TH>N become a household name was something none of us imagined at the start. It taught me valuable lessons about building a business, backing good people and challenging convention, many of which I still draw on today as we grow Wakam UK.

Q. What has been the most valuable piece of advice you’ve received?
Treat people with dignity and fairness, whatever the circumstances. Throughout your career you’ll face difficult conversations, but you can always choose to be honest, respectful and fair. In my experience, people remember how you made them feel long after they’ve forgotten the detail of what was said.

Q. What has been the key positive and/or negative impact of change in your area of the market?
Technology has transformed the industry. It allows businesses to recruit talent regardless of location, creating opportunities that didn’t exist a few years ago. My only concern is for those starting out. I learnt a huge amount simply by being around experienced colleagues, listening, asking questions and observing how they worked. While technology improves productivity, it can’t replace those everyday moments where knowledge is passed from one generation to the next.

Q. If you were not in your current position, what would you like to be doing, and why?
I’d be travelling the world with my wife. Every trip adds more destinations to our list, so I’m not sure we’d ever finish. I’ve travelled extensively through work, but that’s very different from having the time to properly experience a place, meet the people and enjoy the journey.

Q. What three items would you put on display in a museum of your life, and why?
A picture of Lucky, the MORE TH>N dog, as a reminder of one of the most exciting periods of my career. A certificate of insurance for the Titanic, presented to me by colleagues when I left RSA, which always sparks conversation. Finally, a bottle of English sparkling wine alongside a bottle of Champagne, representing Wakam’s French heritage and our exciting journey in the UK.

Q. What three guests would you invite to a dinner party?
Sir Alex Ferguson, for his remarkable leadership and ability to build successful teams over decades. Winston Churchill, to hear his perspective on leading through extraordinary challenges. And Billy Connolly, whose humour and storytelling would undoubtedly make it an unforgettable evening.
