Careers That Thrive – How Culture and Policy Are Shaping the Future of Insurance

Over the course of my career, I’ve seen the insurance and legal sectors evolve in ways I couldn’t have imagined when I started out. While there have certainly been challenges along the way, I’ve been fortunate to grow within a company that’s embraced progress and created the kind of environment where careers can truly thrive.

One of the most important changes for me has been the shift toward flexible working. The ability to structure my day in a way that allows me to be fully present both at work and at home has been a game changer. It’s not simply about convenience, it’s about being trusted to deliver, wherever you’re working from. That trust creates a culture of accountability, yes, but also of confidence. For those with caring responsibilities and frankly anyone trying to juggle the demands of modern life, that flexibility opens doors.

Alongside that, advances in technology have completely transformed the way we operate. It hasn’t always been seamless, but by embracing digital tools and smarter systems, we’ve been able to streamline processes, improve communication, and focus our energy on what really matters – supporting people. Technology should enable, not replace, the human element of what we do. Getting that balance right is what allows teams to thrive and clients to feel genuinely looked after.

Inclusivity has also played a major role in my development. I’ve worked in an environment where the focus has been on capability and contribution, not gender or background. That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident – it takes leadership, intention, and ongoing effort. But the rewards are clear. A diverse team brings broader perspectives, better decisions, and stronger outcomes. Across the sector, we still need to challenge outdated norms and create spaces where everyone feels they belong and can succeed.

If we want to keep attracting and retaining the best talent, we need to keep innovating, not just with tech, but with our thinking. That means reimagining career paths, breaking down barriers, and asking ourselves how we can do things better.

I’m proud of how far we’ve come, but I’m even more optimistic about where we’re going. A sector that values people, embraces change, and champions inclusion isn’t just good for business – it’s essential for the future.
